YOPEY - Young People of the Year

Not every youngster is up to no good! Many are dedicating their lives to others. We want to thank them.

Forget the headlines! Forget the newspapers! In this climate of teen violence and gun crime, underage drinking and ASBOs, it's no wonder they're filled with negative stories about our youth. But the truth is this is a minority of Britain's youngsters. You probably know young people doing good for others. Perhaps you are one yourself.

Maybe you or someone you know cares for an ill or disabled friend or relative, makes the community safer, raises money for charity, volunteers here or abroad, or shows spirit in adversity.

These young people deserve to be recognised and rewarded. That's why Take a Break is launching its most important competition ever: Young People of the Year.

You can enter an individual or a group. The only condition is that the nominees must be aged between 10 and 25.

Journalist Tony Gearing, the man behind the project, says: 'Good young people should be celebrated. They're positive role models and can inspire other young people to do good.'

Take a Break couldn't agree more. And so we are mounting our greatest search ever. We will need your help. It's such an important competition, the Prime Minister Gordon Brown has asked his wife Sarah to judge it.

The finalists will be invited to No 10 Downing Street in London where Mr Brown will announce the winners.
