As one of the growing number of male candidates, Kevin Banks is pushing the Bolton branch of Mums' Army forward. He wants to do everything he can to help improve his neighbourhood and to stand forward for those who are afraid to speak out against antisocial behaviour. Tel: 07957 901948
Blackpool, Lancashire Outrage was caused when Mums' Army's Beverley Warren was summoned to meet two Labour councillors and warned that she should stop campaigning. She says: 'That made us even more determined.' She and Jo-Anne Pilling announced at their first meeting, attended by 30 people, that they will be standing as candidates in 2007.
Beverley's campaign tips:
- Once you have got the ball rolling with your local newspaper, or television or radio station, you must keep a high profile.
- Encourage people to vote. There are 2.4 million Take a Break readers alone who do not vote. What power!
- Hold a public meeting and invite your local councillors, police, and the local press.
- I've got a committee including a chairman, a secretary and three others. Target the bus station - they get a lot of violence.
- Send leaflets to schools - I believe that most antisocial behaviour stems from bullying.
- Keep Take a Break informed.
- This is very new to all of us so let's go forward together. Feel free to contact me.
