Keep Women Working
Breadline Britain
At checkouts and in call centres, catering companies and care homes, many British people are working their fingers to the bone.
They dash from school to shift, from shift to supermarket to supper. They hold their families together and they hold down jobs too.
But now there's a recession on and guess who's being shown the door first. Exactly!
New figures reveal that in certain parts of the country these hard-working women are losing their jobs twice as quickly as men.
These are the part-time, low-paid jobs that busy mums do because they fit around families. And it's these jobs that bosses are shedding in the downturn.
That's why Take a Break is launching another campaign - Keep Women Working.
Ever since this Government came to power it has encouraged women - particularly mothers - to go back to the workplace. Many responded and the number of women in work shot up.
But now, as the recession bites harder, it is these mums who are finding themselves out of work, with disastrous consequences for many families across the UK.
